Te Whakaoranga O Karioi

Delighted to be doing some mahi in my community with the amazing team at Karioi Project.

Te Whakaoranga O Karioi is prime model of a successful environmental education and ecological restoration project with genuine collaboration and support.

In just 10 years volunteers and staff have:

  • Removed over 14,000 predators from 2,300 ha of land.
  • Cut 100 kms of trap lines and installed 2,048 traps
  • 350+ volunteers clocking over 35,000 volunteer hours
  • 174 local households doing predator control on their own property – aiming for Predator Free Raglan.
  • Seabird burrows protected, with 30 Oi chicks successfully fledged in the last 4 years!
  • Environmental education programmes enjoyed by 500+ local students and their families.\
